When Rivers Meet performance at Gloucester Guildhall was a testament to the band's electrifying live shows and independent spirit. The band's setlist and performance style were a blend of gritty guitar work, soaring vocals, and emotive songwriting, showcasing their growth and evolution.

When British husband and wife musicians Grace and Aaron Bond released their previous album ‘Aces Are High’ in 2023 recorded by a river in the depths of Suffolk, little did they know about the hurricane-strength surge of support that would carry them to become the first fully Independent Rock/Blues Band to have a Top 10 in the UK Official Album Charts. And have, to date, released five albums.

Newly expanded, they began as a duo and now they are six. both on record and on stage. The new album, ‘Addicted to You’ dramatically expands the band’s signature blues-rock sound, bringing an incredible array of new sonic textures and an atmospheric and intriguing production.

The band’s roots lie in the blues with duo Aaron and Grace. Their early sound has evolved to encompass classic rock, and elements of folk. Already inductees into the UK Blues Hall of Fame, their last two albums have both graced the top ten of the UK albums chart. That’s no mean feat for a completely independent band.

A dazzling meld of southern fringed blues-rock with dashes of Americana and delicate rootsy folk incursions. A confluence of genres just and true to their name. But make no bones about it these East Anglian blues-rockers can ‘rock out’ with the best of them.

With Grace taking the front, her vocals provide the perfect gritty and peppery tone to the blues riffs and picking behind her.

Opening with ‘Free Man’, taking us back to their blues roots, Grace’s raw, emotive voice backed by slide guitar and mandolin. Then ‘Take Me To The River’ with Aaron taking vocal duties and Grace on mandolin. ‘Break Free’, from new album and benefiting from the new fuller, richer sound.

‘Seen It All Before’ and ‘I Can’t Fight This Feeling’ bring darker, heavier, bluesy rock. Both feature Grace’s powerful voice and see the band’s guitarist cutting loose.

Swampy blues follows with ‘Never Change’, with uplifting chorus, then ‘Preacher’, a funk rock riff, and ‘Trail to Avalon’ which goes back to their early days with menacing rhythm and slide guitar and the powerful vocals punching through.

Slow burning ‘Breaker Of Chains’ leads to an acoustic ‘Golden’ with the band exiting and leaving Aaron on vocals and guitar to showcase a softer side to his songwriting.

With band back, ‘Addicted To You’ kick starts the next part of the show with tough riffs, a melodic, euphoric chorus, and time changes, leading into ballad ‘Tree Of Life’ with a soaring chorus.

Closing the main set with the raucous opening riffs and swamp-dwelling rhythms of their statement track ‘Did I Break The Law’ brings us back to some blues rock with slide guitar with Grace’s voice becoming increasingly intense.

But they were not finished yet. The encore started with swampy blues rocker ‘Play My Game’, detonates into life with Aaron’s raw bleeding Telecaster contrasting with Grace’s vocals, which are as emotive as ever; then turning up the volume a bit for ‘Testify’ before groove driven rocker, ‘Want Your Love’ finishes the night. It is a great way to close.

They’re an impressive live band with some great material whose rise seems set to deservedly continue. Clearly, they are a band that are going places, and the future is very bright for them.
